At Island Elementary, we have instituted basic homework guidelines for all students, Kindergarten-6th grade.  Students are asked to read for 20-30 minutes per night each week.  Occasionally, a grade level may have a long term assignment, but these are our standard homework expectations. This may be less homework for new families than they are used to, and we hope the additional time at home will be used for sports, free play, family activities, learning an instrument, pursuing a hobby, volunteering, or pursuing the many other interests and opportunities that our amazing students have.  Our plan continues to be making the most of students’ time at school, and for students to practice short, yet meaningful learning reinforcement at home, while preserving as much time as possible for families.
