You can visit our Facebook page to view videos and photographs from the Croc Rock-N-Run. We encourage you to share your photos in the comments. We have a separate post for each timeslot!

We've reached our goal of $45,000 and exceeded it! We're currently at $46,774. Can we get $50K by Sunday night?

The Fundraiser will close on Sunday, September 24. We'll announce the classroom and individual leaderboard winners next week!

We have a membership challenge underway. If we can reach 300 members by Sunday night, the PTA will provide popsicles to students during lunch! You can purchase an individual membership or family bundles here. We are currently at 203 members!

We invite students, mom, dad, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and the community to join the PTA!

Back to School Extravaganza Medication Drop Off

Families who need to drop off medication for their child may do so during our Back to School Extravaganza on Thursday, August 17 from 8:30-4:00. Mediciation must be given to Nancy Hertzog, our Public Health Nurse, or Yuri Campos, our School Health Aid. FCPS policy does not permit medication to be dropped off with any other staff members other than the Public Health Nurse or School Health Aid.

Preparing for and Paying for Meals at School

Parents/caregivers need to provide their students with money to purchase meals at school, send them with a packed lunch, or apply (and be approved) for free and reduced-price meals benefits. School breakfast for students costs $1.75. Lunch is $3.25 for elementary students and $3.50 for middle, secondary, and high school students.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals

The application for free and reduced-priced meals is now available for the 2023-24 school year. Students who were approved for free and reduced-price lunch last year are eligible for the first 30 days of school this year (or until a new application is processed). Families should re-apply as soon as possible for the 2023-24 school year, so eligible students continue to receive meals at no cost.

Paying With MySchoolBucks

The best way to purchase meals (and keep food lines moving!) is to use MySchoolBucks. Set up your student’s MySchoolBucks account today. Our front office staff can help with any questions.

MySchoolBucks accounts can be set up to add money to the account automatically, as needed. Families with multiple children can use the same MySchoolBucks account. Visit FCPS’ Food and Nutrition webpage for more information.

First Day of School

Island Creek Staff Members will be available to help students find their classroom on the first day of school, Monday, August 21. Doors to school will open at 8:20 a.m, and school officially begins at 8:35 a.m.

Because of our concern for safety and our desire to begin establishing important routines on the first day of school, we do not allow parents to walk children to classrooms on the first day of school, with the exception of our kindergarten students and new to Island Creek students.

Parents of returning students in Grades 1 – 6, please say “goodbye” at the front door. We will have plenty of staff on hand to help your child find their classroom once they are inside the building. We appreciate your understanding as to why we have this policy.

    Dear Island Creek Families,

Late this afternoon, a student came to the building and reported that they had been grabbed in the arm by a man while they were walking to our playground from their home. We called the parent and the Fairfax County Police, who are investigating this incident.

I want to take this moment to share some safety reminders for you and your child. If your child is approached by strangers on foot or in vehicles, they should run to a safe place to call 911. Here are additional safety tips.

    1. Do not walk alone and walk in groups of two or more.
    2. Never get into a vehicle with a stranger
    1. If someone tries to pull you away or into a car fight, shout, scream, kick, bite, run, and tell.
    2. Never take anything a stranger offers you—do not accept candy, food, or money from a stranger.
    3. Do not walk alone in the dark.
    4. Stay away from lonely places—do not go alone into deserted buildings, empty parking lots, or places where there are few people around.
    5. Remain on school grounds during school hours.
    6. Immediately tell responsible adults about any suspicious activities or people encountered to or from school and give as many details as possible. Even if you aren’t sure why it is suspicious, but doesn’t feel right, tell an adult.

All of us here at Island Creek are your partners in ensuring that your children are safe when they travel to and from school and are in our community.

    Sincerely,
