Dear Island Creek Families,

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce that Ms. Denise Cash-Pinckney will be an Assistant Principal at Island Creek Elementary, effective July 2024.

Ms. Cash-Pinckney is joining us from Bailey’s Upper Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences where she serves as the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Resource Teacher and School Testing Coordinator. Prior to assuming the role of MTSS Resource Teacher, she served as an Acting Assistant Principal, Advanced Academics Resource Teacher/Interventionist, and 4th Grade Teacher within the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) system.

Ms. Cash-Pinckney's professional journey also encompasses significant contributions at J.R. Ingram Elementary School in North Carolina, where she served in various capacities including Literacy Specialist, Curriculum Support Coach, and General Education Teacher across multiple grade levels (Grades 1-4). Her dedication and performance were recognized when she was honored as the “Teacher of the Year” for the 2019-20 academic year.

Ms. Cash-Pinckney demonstrates collegial leadership by fostering teacher self-efficacy and enhancing staff capacity. Her approach emphasizes the importance of developing strong relationships with all stakeholders. Ms. Cash-Pinckney ensures equitable access and opportunities for all students to grow and develop to their fullest potential. She utilizes a data-driven approach to inform decision-making, effectively addressing both academic and socio-emotional needs of students.

Ms. Cash-Pinckney is a graduate of Wando High School in Charleston County, SC and earned an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education at the University of NC at Pembroke.  She has a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University, an Executive Certification in Administration and Supervision, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Liberty University.

Ms. Cash-Pinckney was introduced to the Isladn Creek Staff this morning. Ms. Cash-Pinckney looks forward to meeting the Island Creek students and families this summer at events and in August at Open House. Ms. Baxter and I are thrilled to have Ms. Cash-Pinckney join the Island Creek Administration Team and look forward to collaborating and teaming together!

Respectfully yours,

Jen Fallert

Tomorrow is Purple Up!

We encourage all Island Creek students and staff to wear purple tomorrow as a visible gesture of support for our military-connected youth and their families.

Island Creek Elementary is proud to have over 150 military-connected youth as part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community and recognize their strength and resilience. Throughout the month of April, we will feature our military-connected students on the Morning News show as they recite the “Pledge of Allegiance.”
